Your Time is an inspirational programme designed to encourage girls in schools to participate in competitive sport and sports leadership opportunities.
Funded by the Department for Education, the Your Time programme aims to create opportunities for girls to participate in competitive sport. It is supported and implemented via a Sports Leadership learning and development programme for girls aged 14-16 in English secondary schools where learners are empowered to create competitive sport opportunities for their peers.
The Your Time Programme will run for three years and will be available to secondary schools across all regions of England. 75 schools will access the programme initially in 2021/22 with a further 125 schools in 2022/23 and 150 schools in 2023/24.
How does it work?
Learners complete a series of six online learning modules which focus on skill development and engaging with their peers, working towards achieving an accredited award. Having achieved this, Your Time Leaders will complete the programme by leading at least one competitive sports event to their peers.
Central to this event will be reflection and discovery where the learners will identify negative associations and barriers to female participation in competitive sport. This insight will then empower the Competition Leaders to address these challenges through the design of their event, seeking to meet what girls from their school care about and find engaging.
Modules within the learning programme will equip the Your Time Leaders with the knowledge, skills, character, resilience and confidence to:
- Increase interest in competitive sport amongst girls specifically
- Identify and address barriers and negative perceptions of competitive sport among girls
- Broaden, strengthen and improve the relevance of competitive school sport activities available to girls in their schools to compliment current, traditional delivery
Learning will take place via a self serve online e-learning platform combined with practically applied tasks as part of an organising team. The objective of the Your Time Leadership programme is to enable Leaders to deliver competitive sport events that engage other girls to participate.
By completing a series of modules, learners develop their confidence in five key skills: communication, teamwork, self-belief, self-management and problem solving.
Your Time Ambassadors
Girls taking part in the Your Time programme will be able to take inspiration from the Your Time Sports Ambassadors and Leadership Ambassadors.
Our Sports Ambassadors provide examples of what is possible for girls and women who choose to take part in sport. Each has overcome their own personal challenges to engage in sport, proving that anything is possible if you have a clear goal and you believe in yourself and those around you.
Olympic medals, world championships and international success – the Your Time Sport Ambassadors have done it all and much more.

Leadership Ambassadors are our inspirational learners who have first-hand experience of developing their leadership skills and encouraging their peers to take part in sport and physical activity.

How do we get involved in Your Time?
Your Time is a three-year programme available to state-funded schools in England. A minimum of six girls aged 14-16 per school will take part in the online learning programme, identifying what their peers recognise as engaging competitive sport opportunities before leading an event or competition to provide opportunities for a minimum of 25 of their peers.
If you’d like to be among the first schools to deliver the programme, which is limited to 75 schools in 2022, please complete our Expression of Interest Form using the link below.
