SLQ / Sports Leaders has created a new learning programme designed to support schools through the Covid-19 crisis, providing young people with the inspiration needed to play a key role in overcoming the current situation and rebuilding their communities in the future.
The 'I Can, I Am' Resilience Education Programme provides learners aged 11-18 with a series of challenges designed to test and build their resilience, preparing them for a return to education environments once the current situation has subsided while also developing a number of key skills that will provide benefit to young people long into the future.
The programme has been created to be delivered to learners online, requiring them to complete the ten challenges at home. By building their ability in five key skills – teamwork, communication, self-management, problem solving and self-belief – the challenges guide learners through a complete programme, providing them with a recognised award on completion.
According to research from Harvard University’s Center on the Developing Child, the disruption to learning caused by major incidents, like the current coronavirus pandemic, can lead to ‘toxic stress’, which can have a negative impact on pupils for up to five years. By implementing a Crisis Recovery Education Programme, such as the ‘I Can, I Am’ Resilience Programme, pupils can continue to engage with school, their peers and their community, helping to alleviate the mental anxiety created by dramatic changes.
Licences to deliver the 'I Can, I Am' Resilience Education Programme can be purchased for £499, allowing a school to access resources for as many learners as they need. Alternatively, schools can choose to purchase the I Can, I Am programme in conjunction with our Personal Skills Programme for £1799. The Personal Skills Programme provides schools with a whole-school series of awards designed to raise standards in character education and develop the skills of learners in key areas. You can find out more about the Personal Skills Programme by clicking this link.
