Our annual Learner of the Year award was established to recognise and celebrate learners who have gone above and beyond to embody the skills that our leadership programmes develop.

We are looking for learners who can reflect on what their development means to them as an individual and within their community. They will need to be able to identify the steps they have taken to use the skills they have evolved in their qualification, award or programme to impact their school or personal life in a positive way – something we know many of our learners do every single day.

Nominating a learner (or several) is easy, and this year we have updated the nomination process to be even more inclusive and straight forward.

STAGE 1 - NOMINATION

Step 1: For tutors to complete

Any learners must be nominated by their tutor, who may nominate up to three learners. To submit a nomination, fill in this short form, including a brief statement about why you believe the learner should win the award. 

Step 2: For learners to complete

Learners should then submit their own entry form alongside either a video with an optional short statement, or through a longer, written statement.

For nominees submitting video entries, these must be sent in addition to the form via WeTransfer to hjohnstone@sportsleaders.org.

The application window is now open for nominations until Friday 12th May for any leaders certificated in 2021/22 or currently studying in the 2022/23 academic year at active SLQ centres.

Please note that any video clips or written content may be used for promotional purposes on SLQ Sports Leaders websites, social media channels and in printed material, as well as in future Learner of the Year promotion.

STAGE 2 – SHORTLISTING AND THE DECISION PANEL

After the submission deadline has passed, our Learner of the Year decision panel will meet to review the entries and choose this year’s finalists, as well as the overall winner.

Once the panel has chosen the winner, they will be notified via their tutor and announced on our social media channels. We will then arrange an award presentation at their centre where they will be given the Learner of the Year trophy and a £100 gift voucher.
