Over twenty members of the College’s senior management teams rubbed shoulders with students and teachers to hear how unique links with the local community were providing extensive opportunities for young learners.
Huddersfield New College has offered a full range of Sports Leadership qualifications for over ten years, but an innovative partnership with the University of Central Lancaster to offer Foundation degrees has seen the college take sport out of the classroom and create links with the local community to offer a host of unique opportunities and experiences.
Those most benefiting are the students. Helping to celebrate the award were Georgia, Seth and Lauren. All three are Sports Ambassadors and in addition to studying Sports subjects they have also taken part in a variety of sport and non-sport related leadership volunteering activities. Georgia alone has clocked up over 1000 hours!
The opportunities provided by the college are numerous. Through a local Sports Partnership they have generated extensive coaching opportunities with primary and secondary schools, and this is in addition to numerous in-college opportunities to run sessions and gain paid employment. These peer-led sessions have not only provided benefits for the students, but the college has seen significant course recruitment increase too!
