Celebrate your students: Learner of the Year 2022 launches

Nominations are now open for this year’s SLQ Sports Leaders Learner of the Year Awards.

This year’s will be the fourth iteration of the awards, which recognise the achievements of learners and their own personal journeys to completing their qualifications.

After another year of disruptions, cancellations and last-minute changes to plans, students have been among the hardest hit, losing exams and being forced to find alternative ways to develop and demonstrate their skills.

In the midst of these challenges, there have been a huge number of learners who have gone beyond what was required of them to continue on their learning journeys, building up their abilities and putting their skills into practice, encouraging their peers and their communities to be active and stay in touch.

If you feel that a learner you know or maybe you have worked with has a story to tell from the last twelve months, then our Learner of the Year Awards could be the perfect chance to shine a light on their achievements.

The nomination process for the Awards is open now until 5pm, Friday 29th April – you can find out full details of how to apply here.

Last year’s winner was 17-year-old Joyce from North London, who despite coming across as confident and outgoing, often struggled with her self-belief. As the world moved online as a result of the pandemic, Joyce took it upon herself to keep developing her leadership skills by organising a variety of virtual sports challenges for primary school pupils in her local area.

Her passion and energy stood out for the Learner of the Year judging panel, making her a perfect example of our vision of young people realising their potential. Since winning the award, Joyce has become a Leadership Ambassador for our Your Time programme, helping encourage girls to create more competitive sport opportunities for their peers.
