The main funding available for Sports Leaders qualifications are:

Yes. All SLQ qualifications allow reasonable adjustments so that a disabled Learner can complete the assessment requirements using alternative methods, if the Learner cannot complete the LER or any other assessment. Please refer to our Reasonable Adjustments & Special Considerations Policy for more details.

A qualification requires formal assessment, is regulated and has external quality assurance. An award is a programme of learning that does not have formal assessment and the delivery is internally quality assured.

For a learner to achieve the Level 2/Level 5 Qualification in Community Sports Leadership a minimum of 10 hours must be conducted ‘within the community’, i.e. outside of school curriculum time. If there is a split between community and non-community to make up the ten hours then the learner will achieve the Level 2/Level 5 Qualification in Sports Leadership.

The Learner Evidence Record is mandatory for all our qualifications. However the following guidance is applicable in relation to RPL:

•A Centre is permitted to RPL if the assessment criteria/minimum action matches over with another qualification.

• If a learner uses a worksheet/assignment from another qualification that must be clearly signposted within the LER and during IV/QA engagement that piece of work should be attached to the LER.

Please note, is not enough for a Tutor/Assessor to say that their learners have completed work elsewhere and leave the LER blank.

Offering a more flexible certification pathway for Level 2 sports leadership qualifications means that Centres might not know what they will certificate learners for SL2 or CSL2 until the end of the academic year. Which Quan code should you use? If your exams' officer needs to submit a Quan code for study programmes to DfE then they can use SL2 (601/8581/8). You will still be able to choose SL2 or CSL2 certificates at the end. There is no difference in qualification size or cost.

When you apply for a course you will:

1.Select SL2/CSL2 (SL5/CSL5 in Scotland) – Level 2 Qualification in Sports/Community Sports Leadership’– this covers both qualifications.
2.Be asked whether you plan to deliver and certificate a SL2 or a CSL2 (SL5 or a CSL5) course. This does not hold you to delivering one or the other – it is just to get an idea for future Quality Assurance review visits.

During the course learners will either complete their demonstration of leadership with:

1.A group linked with your Centre
2.A group in the community

When you apply for certificates you will:

Select either SL2 or CSL2 (SL2 or CSL5) against each of your learners that have successfully completed the course. This will be determined by where learners have completed their demonstration of leadership.

You can request a mix of SL2 and CSL2 (SL2 and CSL5) certificates if your cohort.

No, there is no longer the need for any prerequisites for Level 3 Qualification in Sports Leadership (SL3). Core leadership skills are now built into the content of the qualification so that anyone can start it, no matter what their previous leadership experience is.

With regards to the Level 2 qualification learners now have the option of completing their ten hours demonstration of leadership either:

•linked with the centre (SL2) - any leadership that is undertaken in school curriculum time (e.g. leading a group of primary school children in curriculum time)

OR

•in the community (CSL2) - any leadership that is undertaken outside of school curriculum time (e.g. leading an extra-curricular group; leading at a community sports club).For a learner to achieve the Level 2 Qualification Community Sports Leadership they must complete their full ten hours demonstration of leadership "in the community".

Yes as long as they evidence all that is required for both qualifications and if they were to undertake 20 hours of leadership (10 school/10 community). This will then cost £10 for additional certification, they will have 2 years to complete both at the Centre under their original certification.

All learners who are undertaking a SLQ qualification should lead under direct supervision at all times during their learning. This means that they should never be left alone with a group of participants. On completion of the Level 2 Qualification in Sports Leadership or Level 2 Qualification in Community Sports Leadership, a learner may lead activities/sessions under indirect supervision once they are 16 years of age. This means that a responsible adult, eg: teacher, coach etc will need to be within the vicinity and on hand to assist if required, but the learner does not need this person with them at all times.

For example: a Sports Leader may take a group of participants off for an activity on one area of a playing field, whilst a responsible adult is with another group on the other side of the playing field.
