Volunteering
When you 'volunteer', you 'volunteer as something'. There is no
such thing really as a simple volunteer. Your sports leadership
training clearly equips you to continue volunteering as a Sports
Leader just as you did in training. However, it also equips you to
volunteer in a number of other roles. You may not always find
people asking for Sports Leaders volunteers either. You will
however, see organisations asking for holiday playscheme leaders,
youth club assistants, activity helpers and so on - all of which
need the skills that you have as a Sports Leader.
Multi-sports clubs and associations, or sport specific clubs
such as cricket, tennis or football clubs operate across the UK at
local level and often welcome offers of help. As a Sports Leader
you can assist in organising teams, helping in training sessions by
running warm up sessions, helping with the cool down at the close
of sessions, and you may even wish to extend your own leadership
skills by learning how to coach under a more qualified sports
coach. There are dozens of sports and many have their own National
Governing Body and many of these are organised on a national,
regional and local levels.
