Tutor Training Pre-Reading
Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership
(SL1)
Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership
(SL2)
Level 2 Award in Community Sports
Leadership (CSL)
This is a full days Tutor Training that focuses on giving
information to new tutors of the Level 1
Award in Sports Leadership, the Level 2 Award in Sports
Leadership and the Level 2 in Award Community Sports
Leadership qualifications. The information and
ideas are disseminated through various briefings, workshops (which
include practical activities), and seminars.
Throughout the day various sessions will be delivered, and
delegates will be given full handouts for each session so that the
information and ideas gained can be taken away.

To help understand what will be covered throughout the day, the
information below gives a brief taster of each session. From these
tasters you should be able to identify your expectations so that
you come to the training day knowing what sort of information you
should be obtaining, as well as enabling you to formulate any
questions that need to be answered about the qualifications.
Introduction (09.00-09.20)
A welcome to the training day and an introduction to the staff
that will be leading the workshops. This will set the scene for the
day and outline what is going to be covered.

Teaching Leadership 1 & 2
Workshops (11.30-12.30 & 15.10-16.15)
Who are the workshops for?
These practically based sessions are suitable for all new
tutors who have not attended Tutor Training in the past. All
delegates will attend both of these sessions.
What is the aim of these workshops?
During the workshops, we will convey the difference between
teaching sports based activities and teaching leadership
skills. This notion will be investigated over two, one
hour practical workshops:
Teaching Leadership 1 - You will look in detail
at the leadership skill of 'communication', breaking down what
constitutes effective communication. You will participate in
fun, practical activities that are designed to teach communication
skills, that you can take away and use in your organisations with
your candidates.
Teaching Leadership 2 - You will focus on the
leadership skill of 'organisation' within a session, which will
encourage you to think about how you will teach this vital skill to
your candidates through practically based activities.

activities delivered during the Teaching Leadership 1 workshop.

activities delivered during the Teaching Leadership 2 workshop.
Although these workshops involve a certain degree of practical
activity, they are designed to teach important lessons about
leadership, not to test your physical ability or sporting prowess,
but please wear suitable clothes and footwear (for
example, tracksuit/shorts and trainers).

Ideas Surgery Workshop
(13.35-14.45)
Who is the workshop for?
This practically based workshop is for delegates that do
not require training for the Level 2 qualifications. This could be
due to already being trained at Level 2, or having no plans to
deliver the Level 2 qualifications.
What is the aim of this seminar?
This workshop offers a chance for delegates to engage in some
other practical ideas that can be used at your centres when
teaching leadership to your candidates.
You will also have an opportunity to discuss in small
groups, issues regarding the running of the courses. This part of
the workshop will be structured around questions that are
frequently asked within centres, and it is a period of time when
you are encouraged to share ideas with your peers. Once the
topic has been discussed you will be asked to share your small
groups answers with the rest of the delegates in the
workshop.
This is another workshop that encourages you to network with
others, to enable you to start creating a Leadership Learning
Community within your area that can be used as a support system for
your organisation.
By the end of the workshop you will hopefully have heard some
good practice being carried out by others, as well as
identified some practices that you may need to consider
implementing as part of improving your own course/s.
Network/Afternoon Break
(14.45-15.10)
What is the aim of this session?
This extended afternoon break provides the ideal CPD opportunity
for delegates to network, make contacts, and share useful ideas
with one another. There will also be lots of resources available
for delegates to look through, and Sports Leaders UK staff will be
on hand to answer any questions that may have arisen throughout the
day.
