Who is the workshop for?
This training is only available to experienced
tutors of the awards and qualifications who have attended
a Tutor Training day previously.
What are the aims of the seminars?
1 - Introduction and Sharing Good Practice
During this seminar you will look at the importance of
sharing good practice, that you have developed as a result of your
experiences of teaching leadership qualifications. You will
initially participate in some group discussion of your current
practices, and will be encouraged to share these with fellow
delegates.
Following this, delegates will be asked to share practical ideas
from the games/activities that are used to teach leadership to your
candidates. Each delegate will be asked to think of one teaching
idea that they have used to help deliver a particular aspect of
their leadership course, and to then share it with the rest of the
group. This provides great opportunity for everyone to have a go
and join in, therefore sharing your best practice. A kitbag of
general sports equipment (for example balls, bibs, blindfolds, bean
bags and cones) will be available, but please bring with you any
specific materials/equipment that you would like to use.
2 - Leadership Learning Communities, Teaching Values,
QCF & Quality Assurance Update
We will highlight the benefits of you setting up, or being
involved with, a Leadership Learning Community in your local area.
This will equip you to share support and guidance with other tutors
within your centre/local area, and create a network of people who
continue to develop through learning collaboratively. We all have
knowledge that we sometimes don't even realise is there, and
sharing with colleagues often helps us to develop new ideas based
on the knowledge that we have tucked away in our grey matter!
This seminar will also examine the values delivered during a
leadership course. This will be done by investigating the phrase
'working towards a set of values', as identified in all Sports
Leaders UK leadership courses. We will look at how these values are
currently taught to candidates, and explore possible alternative
methods of doing so. Working towards a set of values is paramount
for every leader, and if you have been delivering for some time,
you may find this workshop offers another set of ideas about how we
can enhance our teaching of leadership.
Finally, there will be an opportunity to refresh and update your
knowledge of the quality assurance requirements for the courses
that you are delivering. We will have one of our local External
Verifiers (EVs) on hand to lead this section and take any specific
questions that you may have. If you are unsure who your local EV
is, please visit the What's Happening In Your
Region pages.
What needs to be done before attending these sessions?
Please think of some examples that you might be willing to share
with others that relate to either good or bad practice during
your delivery experiences (we all learn from making mistakes, and
young leaders often learn more from the bad examples than the good
ones!).
You will need to come equipped with some of your best delivery
ideas associated with the awards and qualifications, and be willing
to share them amongst the group. For example games, group
activities, discussion tasks. It is up to you what you would like
to address - so bring your ideas and examples used so far.
We will also have time to take any questions and hopefully
dispel any fears. It is not a seminar where your practice will be
judged, it's about you sharing your ideas with others. We want you
to take at least one useful thing away that will enhance your
teaching of leadership.
