Fundraise for us... we change lives
Sports Leaders UK changes lives. By training as Sports Leaders,
some of the most disenfranchised young people and adults learn new
skills, gain confidence and find a positive new life. Whilst we
work in 90% of secondary schools throughout the UK, there are some
young people we cannot reach who are making bad life
choices. We know we could change their lives for the better if we
could reach them.
We rely on fundraising to carry out some of our most important
work in some of the most deprived areas of the UK. We are
building on our track record of engaging children and adults in the
30% of most deprived wards of the UK as measured by the
Government's Indicies of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). In these
places, low educational attainment, poor housing and high
unemployment makes lives far more difficult. These factors are then
often made worse by inadequate transport systems, poor recreational
facilities and seem almost inevitably to result in many of our
current social problems - vandalism, street crime and
a spiral that individuals start and whole communities get
caught up in.
Sports Leaders UK can make a real contribution to community
improvement. By learning how to communicate effectively and
take a lead, children, young people and adults mark themselves out
as someone with stature. They become leaders for good, not
followers of the bad. Young people form 'teams not
gangs'. Communities become 'get up and go' not 'no go' areas.
Using planning and organising skills, their new knowledge about how
to motivate and get people active and enjoying themselves, they
become people who can build not destroy their communities. The
result is vibrant, active communities with things to do and places
to go; active people with skills and energy to give, and ideas to
share.
All this costs money - although not as much as you may
think. Modest investment in our work brings rich returns:
- £50.00 will pay for two people to train to become
Community Sports Leaders who may not otherwise be able to afford to
take part.
- £500.00 will establish a course for a whole group of young
people where it would not otherwise have been possible.
- £1,500.00 will train a whole team of 20 tutors or more -
that could result in 20 more courses a year, and that could mean
400 more Sports Leaders a year, every year for the foreseeable
future.
- £25,000.00 will engage a Project Officer for a year to work in
one of our target cities or communities across the UK facing
multiple disadvantage.
Making a contribution to our work sends ripples through
communities. Every Sports Leader volunteers hours of service
in their community whilst in training and the vast majority
continue to use their new skills to continue volunteering once they
have qualified. With a qualified Sports Leader, people are in
good hands; your activity will be safe, fun and you will want to go
back for more.
In addition to one-off contributions, direct giving through our
regular donation scheme is a valuable way of supporting Sports
Leaders and making a real impact.
If you are a tax payer you can increase your donation to us by
completing a gift aid declaration form too.
