Learning Outcomes

Each unit is broken down into Learning Outcomes. These Learning Outcomes indicate what the learner is expected to know, understand, or be able to do in order to pass each unit.

Unit 1 - Introduction/Getting to know you

1. Know the tutors.

2. Understand the programme objectives.

3. Know the other learners.

4. Have agreed on a 'confidentiality contract' and 'ground rules' for the course.

5. Understand the methods of delivery.

6. Understand and value the group's hopes, fears and course expectations.

7. Understand themselves as confident people who encourage others to take part in activity sessions.


Unit 2 - Communication

1. Understand the different methods of communication.

2. Be aware of the importance of body language.

3. Recognise their own communication styles.

4. Understand what is meant by assertive communication.

5. Recognise and practice assertiveness skills.


Unit 3 - Organisational skills

1. Understand what it takes to be organised.

2. Plan an activity session. Prepare and organise facility, equipment, and participants, for activity session.

3. Gain ideas for a variety of basic activity sessions.

4. Be aware of the benefits of organisation and evaluation.

5. Have ideas for organising and leading activity groups. 


Unit 4 - What have you got going for you?

1. Recognise a number of their achievements and skills.

2. Understand what motivates them and others.

3. Identify their goals for personal development and achievement.

4. Be aware of ways in which they could promote themselves.


Unit 5 - Understanding sport

1. Have an understanding of the organisational structure of sport at local, regional and national level.

2. Recognise their own sporting networks.

3. Be aware of the progression routes from this course.


Unit 6 - Practical leadership opportunity

1. Have ideas for warm ups, co-operative games and improvised activities.

2. Take part in leading an activity.

3. Evaluate their activity and give feedback to others.


Unit 7 - Setting goals and action planning

1. Set their goals for the future.

2. Choose the action they will take.


Unit 8 - Reflection and evaluation

1. Look back on the course and identified achievements.

2. Receive feedback from the rest of the participants.

3. Provide feedback on the programme.
