Frequently Asked Questions/Troubleshooting

Q.  Who is the course for?
A.  The course is for women and girls aged 14 years and above, and is for those who are interested in sport, physical activity or general community activity. They may be looking to engage in a particular area of activity or may have reached a cross-roads in their life where they are seeking a new direction.

Q.  How long is the course?
A.  The course should take a minimum of 15 hours to complete.

Q.  Who can tutor the course?
A.  Any woman who has experience of sports leadership awards, coaches, community workers, institutional workers, outreach workers, teachers and youth workers is encouraged to deliver the course. Women, Get Set, Go! Workshops may also be available to support those women wishing to tutor the course.

Q.  How do you run the course?
A.  The Tutor Resource Pack (TRP) contains all the information, guidance and resources a tutor requires to run the course. Download a Tutor Resource Pack Order Form. Further support on running the course can be obtained by attending a Women, Get Set, Go! Workshop (although this is not a requirement). The tutor needs to be enthusiastic and ensure that the sessions are fun and practical in nature.

Q.  What are the benefits of running the course?
A.  The benefits include:

  • Allows the candidate to value own skills.
  • Become familiar with personal strengths and areas of development.
  • Recognise potential as a sports leader.
  • It's practical and fun.
  • Potential stepping stone towards further education or employment.
  • Improves personal health and fitness.
  • A good foundation to progress on to the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership; Level 1 Award in Dance Leadership; National Governing Body of Sport Qualifications or Further Education.

Q.  Does the course activity have to be sport related?
A.  No. Sport, physical activity or community activity are all equally valuable as a way of encouraging women and girls to develop their leadership potential, and to provide them with the skills necessary to be able to move into leadership positions in their chosen area of interest.

Q.  Do I need to have had any previous leadership experience?
A.  No, just an enthusiasm for activity and working with others.

Q.  How much is it to go on a course?
A.  For the cost of the course, please go to fees & charges. On occasions the cost may be higher if the organisation/tutor putting on the course has to cover other expenses. It is best to check with the tutor first.

Q.  Do I need to be fit to do the course?
A.  No. Any physical activity within the course is based on fun, not sporting excellence or fitness.
