
Level 3 Certificate in Higher Sports Leadership
The Level 3 Certificate in Higher Sports Leadership is a
nationally recognised qualification that enables successful
learners to lead un-supervised groups of people in sport and
recreational activities. This qualification builds upon the skills
and experience gained through the Level 2 Award in Community Sports
Leadership and the Level 2 Award in Sports
Leadership.
The qualification teaches generic leadership skills such as
organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the
medium of sport. It is a fun and practical qualification, with the
only entrance requirement being that learners should have
successfully completed the Level 2 Award in Community Sports
Leadership or the Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership; however there
are no final examinations to sit.
- Age: 16+ (learners must be 18 years of age on
completion - please note, there is no upper age limit for this
qualification)
- Guided Learning Hours: 107 hours (including 30
hours demonstration of leadership)

The Level 3 Certificate in Higher Sports Leadership
consists of eight units of work, of which seven must be
completed:

*Two units out of the three must be chosen.
The qualification will take approximately 107 guided learning
hours. However, various factors such as the learner/tutor ratio,
the number of learners, the experience levels of the learners and
the compulsory requirement for a valid and current First Aid
certificate will influence the time allocated to the delivery
of any given course.
In order for your learners to complete their Level 3 Certificate
in Higher Sports Leadership they must complete 30
hours demonstration of leadership within the community. The
learners must complete a minimum of ten hours demonstration of
leadership within three of the following units of work:
- Unit 2 - Provision of sport within the community (mandatory
unit)
- Unit 6 - Lead sport/activity sessions for children (optional
unit)
- Unit 7 - Lead sport/activity sessions for older people
(optional unit)
- Unit 8 - Lead sport/activity sessions for disabled people
(optional unit)
Learners must also gain a National Governing Body award as a
compulsory requirement of the qualification.
