Course Programme
A course programme must be produced and submitted to Sports
Leaders UK with the Course Application Form, along with a Course
Outline.
Things to bear in mind when planning your course and producing a
course programme include:
- The name/s of the Independent Assessor/s must be
added to the course programme.
- Course programmes must state the dates, venues, Learning
Outcomes, camping, hours per session/day. A typical day is eight
hours maximum; a two night weekend, 22 hours; the middle day of the
weekend, 12 hours. If Approved Assessment Centre's wish to exceed
the hours they must produce a programme with a rationale for doing
so, for approval by the External Verifier.
- Two hours must be allowed for experience of night navigation in
terrain within the remit.
- Learners should be encouraged to lead each other at appropriate
times during the course, however, leading 'real' groups should be
left until the demonstration of leadership (consolidation).
- Remote supervision expeditions are not to be undertaken on the
training or assessment. The Tutor/Assessor must walk with learners
in order to set them learning tasks, reinforce relevant points, and
adapt the pace and flow of teaching and learning.
- Tutor/Assessors must assess learners as individuals, even if
they are working within a group environment.
- The programme is to include the assessment hours.
- Some assessment may take place during the training hours such
as walk planning, leading learning sessions, planning the
supervision of unaccompanied groups, but the main
leadership/navigation assessment is to take place on the final
assessment component.
- The Tutor/Assessor must consider their learners' consolidation
opportunities when planning the demonstration of leadership time. A
minimum of two months is recommended between the demonstration of
leadership and the assessment date.
