Frequently Asked
Questions/Troubleshooting
Q. What's the first thing I need to
do if I want to deliver the Day Certificate in Sports
Leadership?
A. The first thing to do is complete a Course
Application Form. Once completed, you will receive access to a
Tutor Resource to enable you to make decisions regarding the
planning, content and structure of your course. You will also
receive a Learner Certification Form to inform Sports Leaders UK of
the learners you would like certificating.
Q. How much does it cost and what
do I get for my money?
A. There is a per learner fee (see fees &
charges). For that you will get the Tutor Resource, which has
everything you need to deliver your course including your
registration with Sports Leaders UK, resources, worksheets and lots
of practical ideas, plus each learner receives a
certificate.
Q. Do organisations need to be an
Approved Assessment Centre (AAC) to deliver the Day Certificate in
Sports Leadership?
A. No, there is no need for organisations
wishing to deliver the Day Certificate in Sports Leadership to
become an AAC. As long as tutors are from an authenticated official
organisation e.g. Local Authority, Local Education Authority, Youth
Work, Neighbourhood Renewal Unit, HMP/Youth Offending, voluntary
organisation etc., and a senior member within the organisation
(e.g. head teacher, senior leisure officer or manager) signs the
Day Certificate in Sports Leadership Course Application Form you
can simply read the Tutor Resource and start delivering.
Q. Who can tutor the course?
A. The course can be delivered by anyone
with a basic knowledge of PE or physical activity - this does not
have to be a PE specialist. The tutor will deliver the Day
Certificate in Sports Leadership from the Tutor Resource activity
by activity.
Q. Do tutors have to attend
training?
A. No, at present we do not offer any Tutor
Training for prospective Tutor/Assessors of this award. We feel
that someone with a basic knowledge of PE or physical activity,
plus the help from the Tutor Resource and support from experienced
colleagues should be able to deliver the course with no formal
training from us. If you would like to attend one of our Tutor
Training days in order to familiarise yourself with the underlying
principles and concepts of leadership then you will be more than
welcome. Go to Tutor Training dates and
information.
Q. What age do learners need to be
to do the Day Certificate in Sports Leadership?
A. We advise that learners are 16 years or
older on the day that your course starts.
Q. Is there an ideal group
size?
A. Sports Leaders UK would suggest that the
optimum number of learners on any one course to be 12 to
15.
Q. Do they have to lead younger
children?
A. We recommend that if possible learners
should be given the opportunity to lead younger (or older) people,
however, we understand that this might not always be possible and
it is acceptable for learners to complete the course having only
led their peers.
Q. How long does the course take to
deliver?
A. As the name suggests the Day Certificate
in Sports Leadership should be delivered within a day (seven
hours). However this may be broken up for example into two
afternoon sessions, four twilight blocks, evenings or
weekends.
Q. Does the Day Certificate in
Sports Leadership have national recognition?
A. The Day Certificate in Sports Leadership
is a course that is accredited and certificated nationally by
Sports Leaders UK. Your successful learners will receive an
official Sports Leaders UK certificate.
Q. So is it a qualification?
A. No, the Day Certificate in Sports
Leadership does not sit on the Qualifications and Credit
Framework (QCF) and is therefore not a nationally recognised
qualification.
