Palace Launch For Sports Leaders UK Foundation

On Wednesday 8th July 2009, HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, hosted a private luncheon at Buckingham Palace to officially launch the new Sports Leaders UK Foundation.

His Royal Highness encouraged guests to consider how they could best help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, who are the focus of the Sports Leaders UK Foundation.

The Foundation has three main goals:

  • To reach those young people that cannot currently access our training, awards and qualifications - particularly those from the most disadvantaged backgrounds with the fewest life chances - so that they can experience the benefits of the training, achieve nationally recognised qualifications, and embark on a pathway to a positive life.
  • By working with employers and other partners, to ensure that a sports leadership course is the start of a young person's life of leadership, and personal achievement - not an end.
  • To harness the secondary benefit of training and deploying Sports Leaders to establish more active communities, where sport and physical activity can be used as a diversion from crime and misconduct, and to encourage communities to lead healthier more active lives.
