Volunteering Opportunities

camden disability sportsLB Camden Disability Sports Development Team - London

The newly developed LB Camden Disability Sports Development Team has a variety of exciting volunteering opportunities - from football coaching to boccia, to becoming involved with supporting the administration of the Special Olympics. You will have the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people and adults with a disability, by helping to make sports and physical activity more accessible to them. We have a wide variety of special and ongoing projects that need volunteer support. In exchange, you'll receive full support and training that may lead to an accreditation or recognised coaching award, and the chance to work within an experienced and dynamic Sports Development Team. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to get into sports leadership, and a great opportunity for anyone already involved in sports leadership to diversify their skills base.

peterborough city councilPeterborough City Council - East

The Sports Development Team at Peterborough City Council have many volunteering opportunities available. They are offering the opportunity for volunteers to assist experienced instructors in multi-sport activities. However, opportunities can be found for volunteers to run sessions for small groups if they wish, and support will be given. They are looking for volunteers aged 14 plus, and adult volunteers are welcome too. The sessions are put on throughout the day, in the evenings and at weekends. If volunteers are a little unsure as to whether they are what the team is looking for, they should give them a ring. They are a friendly team and volunteers will be very welcome.

FESGFriday Evening Swimming Group (FESG) - South East

FESG runs swimming sessions for children from the boroughs of Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham with special needs - from learning, to ASD in all its forms and shapes, and physical disabilities. Students start at school age and and stay until they leave school. If and when appropriate, they can then becomes 'buddies'.

The emphasis in on social interaction and support. This is done through the medium of swimming and aquatic activities. The sessions are split into two sections. The first is 'formal' teaching - small groups working with volunteers under the guidance of a qualified instructor. The second part is guided play - larger groups participating in organised play activities.

The club is looking for any volunteer aged 16-60 who is willing to give up their Friday evening (7.45pm to 9.45pm) during term time only. You do not need to be a strong swimmer, but will need to be comfortable in water. In return, you will work with some lovely young people between five and 25 years of age, with a huge variety of disabilities and needs. FESG will give support on how to work with children, and volunteers will need to complete a CRB form (which FESG can provide).

The sessions are held at the sports centre at Ilford County High School. Many of the volunteers have the opportunity to gain the NPLQ and/or a swimming qualification in addition to Child Protection and several workshops around disability and equal access.
