Maths Leader Award

Since it was established, under the name of The British Sports Trust, in 1982 Sports Leaders UK has been championing leadership courses for young people from the age of 14. These courses have had their focus in sport and more recently dance, however, we have always maintained that it is not the sport or dance that are the most important part of the course. In fact, sport and/or dance have simply been the means used to teach people how to lead others. For many years teachers of subjects outside of sport and dance have been keen to emulate the success they have witnessed in using leadership in the PE and Dance Departments in their own specialisms and the Maths Leader Award aims to do just that.

The Maths Leader Award is not concerned with using sport to teach maths (for example measuring distances or timing races). Instead the award aims to teach young people how to lead others through basic maths activities (for example teaching how to add fractions) by working to develop their communication, organisation and motivational skills.
